As the forerunner of the modern piano the harpsichord is most often built today by independent makers in small workshops. There are various styles sizes andnote-range compasses possible for these instruments. Some of the steps in building a new instrument are shown in the slide show above.
It is also possible to build from kits in which ready-made parts are supplied. Each instrument is unique and may be decorated to suit the buyer's personal taste. The 17th century Flemish- style instrument in the slide show is currently being built in our workshop.
